Rivaldo was born in the city of Recife to a poor family. He was the youngest of three brothers, of whom, like Rivaldo, his father dreamed of raising football players so that the family would get out of poverty. He himself worked as an assistant in the mayor's office and supported the children with the little money that he could earn by reprinting various documents.
As often happens, it is the youngest of the children who fulfills the father's will. Brothers Ricardo and Rinaldo have not been successful on the football fields. But a small, puny guy who was often sick in childhood, whose ball dangled at his feet no matter where he went and played football with himself all day, and the kid had practically no partners and became the best player in the world after many years. The father did everything to keep his young son interested, for his birthday he presented him with the real uniform of the main team of the state - "Santa Cruz".
Rivaldo's life changed on January 6, 1989 - on that day, his father, Romildo Vitor Gomes Ferreira, died. He was hit by a bus while walking to meet his wife after work. On that day, the father was distracted by worries about his son, who was being selected for the team of his hometown. But Rivaldo was not accepted into it "because of the discrepancy to football standards." However, his mother, Marluzia, persuaded him not to quit the game and Rivaldo began to play for, in fact, the village Paulista team, playing in one of the lower leagues, and then completely accidentally got into the Santa Cruz team. To say that the first season was unsuccessful is very gentle. He was disliked by the fans and nicknamed him as a player, the fans had a "bow-legged duck." First contract
In 1992, he signed his first professional contract - the club “Mozhi Miritim” acquired a central defender from “Santa Cruz”, and in addition to it, they gave away an unnecessary jerk for free. However, in 1992, again as if in a fairy tale, Rivaldo began to miraculously transform. It began with the fact that he was in the club "May Mirim". It turned out by chance - the club bought a powerful central defender from Santa Cruz, and in addition to it got a puny awkward central striker for free. Fortunately, in "Can Mirim" they figured out what Rivaldo was missing and prescribed him many hours of training on simulators. When he became noticeably more powerful and ceased to be afraid of single combats with defenders, he immediately began to score a lot of goals.
His game has changed so much that the eminent club Corinthians gladly took Rivaldo from Can Mirim on loan. The former ugly duckling in one season managed to show himself in such a way that he was even invited to the Brazilian national team. On December 16, 1993, Rivaldo played in a match against the Mexican national team and even scored the only winning goal.
The next season, Rivaldo ended up at the Palmeiras club, where he played until 1996. In the first season, he became the champion. By this time, Rivaldo's playing role was finally determined - an attacking midfielder.
It is a pity that all this was not destined to see the poor father, who dreamed of the football glory of his sons. Again, like in a fairy tale, the youngest of the brothers was destined to achieve it ... 
Like many of the great Brazilian players of our time, Rivaldo ended up in Europe. He came to the attention of European breeders in 1995, when the Brazilian national team played two matches in the Old World. In 1996, Rivaldo ended up in Spain, at the Deportivo club. However, here he spent the whole season, and since 1997, Rivaldo began to play in Barcelona.
His highest achievements in Europe are associated with the Catalan club. He became the champion of Spain twice. He won the Spanish Cup once and the Super Cup twice. Rivaldo himself scored a lot of goals and three times became the second in the dispute between the scorers of Spain.

In the end, it came to an open conflict, and the leadership of Barcelona announced that Rivaldo may look for a new club. 
There were quite a few contenders for a great attacking midfielder, and the most famous ones - it is enough to name only Real and Manchester United. As for Rivaldo himself, he wanted to make the final decision only after the 2002 World Cup. However, the Italian Milan did not want to wait and offered Rivaldo truly royal conditions, which he accepted.
How Rivaldo played at the 2002 World Cup is still well remembered by everyone: he regularly scored goals in the first five matches. True, in the semifinal match with the Turkish national team and in the final with the German national team, he managed without goals, but played brilliantly.
After becoming world champion, Rivaldo began a new season at Milan. But pretty soon the inexplicable happened: he ceased to fit into the coach's game concept and eventually settled firmly on the bench. However, in conjunction with Andriy Shevchenko in the 2002-2003 season, he managed to conquer the Champions League.
